What are Number Charts Used for in the Classroom?

Print a set of these 1-15 number charts to have in your classroom as an easy reference for students to grab. I suggest laminating the number charts for extra durability or placing them in dry erase pockets or heavy duty sheet protectors which will allow students to write and erase them over and over.

MATH = LOVE RECOMMENDS…

dry erase pockets

I cannot imagine teaching math without my dry erase pockets! They instantly make any activity more engaging and save me countless hours at the copy machine since I can use the same class sets of copies year after year.

Here are my current go-to recommendations:

  • 8.5 x 11 Inch Dry Erase Pockets from Puroma
  • 11 x 17 Inch Dry Erase Pockets from C-Line Products
  • Expo Dry Erase Markers

They are also a great way to help students work on their number recognition skills. You could print a set of ten frame cards for students to flip over which feature numbers written in word format or numbers represented on ten frames. As students turn over each card, they could mark the number off on their 1-15 chart.

One of my favorite way to use number charts in the classroom is to discover patterns within the numbers. An example of this would be to have the students color all of the squares with even numbers one color and all of the squares with odd numbers another color.

There are so many different ways to use this printable numbers chart in math centers with elementary school children.

Need more than 15 numbers? I have also created 1-20 charts, 1-30 charts, and 1-50 charts.

Factors Chart 1-200 https://mathequalslove.net/factors-chart-1-200/ Sat, 11 May 2024 01:44:42 +0000 https://mathequalslove.net/?p=52922

Any math student or teacher will appreciate this free printable factors chart 1-200 which is available as a convenient pdf file.

Factors Chart 1-200.

This factor sheet features the numbers from 1 to 200 and lists each of the factor pairs that multiplies to each number.

Why I Created This Factor Chart 1-200

I originally created a factors chart 1-100 for my Algebra 2 and Precalculus students to use as a reference while factoring quadratic polynomials.

My students loved using this factor chart as a resource, but they often became frustrated when they would be looking for a pair of numbers that multiplied to a number that was slightly larger than 100.

Factor Chart 1-200.

To help my students out and create a more comprehensive resource for my students and yours, I decided to create a factor chart that goes from 1 to 200.

Uses for this Factor Chart 1-200

I mentioned earlier that my students use this chart as a reference for factoring quadratics. Here are some other uses for a factors chart.

  • Finding the Greatest Common Factor of Two Numbers
  • Finding Common Denominators of Fractions
  • Factoring Quadratic Trinomials

Pascal’s Triangle Templates https://mathequalslove.net/pascals-triangle-templates/ Sat, 20 Apr 2024 20:32:30 +0000 https://mathequalslove.net/?p=52334 Check out these PDF templates for Pascal’s Triangle which feature both filled and blank Pascal’s Triangles to use in your math lessons.

What is Pascal’s Triangle?

Pascal’s triangle is a triangular array of numbers (specifically positive integers) named after famous French mathematician Blaise Pascal. Pascal’s triangle is used in the areas of algebra, combinatorics, and probability theory.

pascal's triangle template in binder.

The first row of Pascal’s Triangle features a single copy of the number 1. The second row features two copies of the number 1. Each subsequent row of Pascal’s Triangle starts with a 1 and ends with a 1. The numbers in the middle of the row can be generated by adding the two numbers above it.

The main use case for Pascal’s Triangle at the high school level and beyond is to calculate the coefficients of binomial expansion.

Lesson Plans Involving Pascal’s Triangle

Students are often introduced to Pascal’s Triangle in middle school. At this age level, students will not understand many of the applications of the triangle, but they are at the perfect age to begin exploring the interesting patterns that can be found inside this triangular array of numbers.

What patterns arise in the triangle if you color only the even numbers or only the odd numbers?

Spoiler Alert: If you color in the odd numbers on Pascal’s Triangle, you will end up creating a Sierpinski Triangle which could lead into a fun mini-unit on fractals and math art!

Another coloring activity using Pascal’s Triangle which is worth exploring is coloring in the multiples of different numbers. For example, have one student color only the multiples of 2. Have another student color the multiples of 3. Have yet another student color the multiples of 4.

Students will soon discover that coloring the multiples of a prime number produce very different results than coloring the multiples of a composite number.

Other types of numbers that can be explored using Pascal’s triangle include square numbers, triangular numbers, and tetrahedral numbers. You can also do a fun lesson on the Fibonacci Sequence by having students explore of the sums of diagonals on Pascal’s Triangle

In the past, I have given students different types of numbers to look for on Pascal’s triangle. They colored their results, and I was able to put the Pascal’s Triangles together to create a fun math art bulletin board featuring Pascal’s Triangle to decorate our classroom.

Pascals Triangle Bulletin Board in High School Math Classroom.

I created a set of Pascal’s Triangle templates for my own classroom, so I thought I would share them with other teachers to use as well.

Divisibility Rules Chart https://mathequalslove.net/divisibility-rules-printable/ Sat, 16 Mar 2024 23:22:46 +0000 https://mathequalslove.net/?p=51818

Help your students remember their divisibility rules with this free printable divisibility rules chart. It is also available to download as a poster for your classroom.

divisibility rules printable chart pdf.

This divisibility rules chart would make the perfect reference for students playing my divisibility rules game, Is It Divisible?

divisibility rules dice game

It would also be a great reference for my divisibility rules puzzle.

divisibility puzzle with moveable pieces.

What are Divisibility Rules?

Divisibility rules are easy to memorize tests that students can use to determine if any whole number is divisible by a given number. Often, this is referred to as performing a “divisibility test.”

Depending on what number you are looking to check for divisibility by, you might have to look at just the last digit of the number, you might have to consider the sum of the digits of the number, or you might have to do a combination of these.

What does it mean for a Number to be Divisible?

A number is considered to be divisible by another number if there is no remainder when the two numbers are divided.

For example, 100 is said to be divisible by 10 because there is no remainder when 100 is divided by 10. 100 is not divisible by 3 because 3 goes into one hundred 33 times with a remainder of 1.

What are some examples of Basic Divisibility Rules?

Technically, you could always use division to check if a number is divisible by another number. But often these divisibility rules provide a fast and easy way to tell if the original number divides evenly by a particular number without having to perform long division.

With small numbers, you can often tell if a number is divisible by a given number by simple inspecting the number. But as the provided numbers reach three or more digits, divisibility rules can come in very handy.

2: A number is divisible by 2 if the last digit is even (0, 2, 4, 6, or 8).

For example, 48 is divisible by 2 because the last digit of 48 (8) is even.

3: A number is divisible by 3 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 3.

For example, 96 is divisible by 3 because 15 (9 + 6) is divisible by 3.

4: A number is divisible by 4 if the last two digits are divisible by 4.

For example, 124 is divisible by 4 because 24 (the last two digits) is divisible by 4.

5: A number is divisible by 5 if the last digit is 0 or 5.

For example, 1000 is divisible by 5 because the last digit is 0.

6: A number is divisible by 6 if the number is divisible by both 2 and 3.

For example, 72 is divisible by 6 because it is divisible by both 2 and 3. We know 72 is divisible by 2 because its last digit is an even number. We know 72 is divisible by 3 because 9 (7 + 2) is divisible by 3.

8: A number is divisible by 8 if the last three digits are divisible by 8.

For example, 160 is divisible by 8 because the last three digits (160) are divisible by 8 (8*20 = 160).

9: A number is divisible by 9 if the sum of the digits is divisible by 9.

For example, 333 is divisible by nine because 9 (3 + 3 + 3) is divisible by 9.

10: A number is divisible by 10 if the last digit is 0.

For example, 90 is divisible by 10 because the last digit is 0.

Divisibility rules are first taught in elementary school, but their application extends through middle school and high school. multiplication table 1-40

I absolutely love sharing and using multiplication charts with my math students, and I want to make sure all you awesome teachers can do the same! This is why I’ve created a bunch of free printable multiplication charts in different sizes and styles, so you can easily provide this valuable resource to your students, too.

Two Different PDF Versions of Multiplication Chart 1-40

For this printable 40×40 multiplication table, one of the printable PDFs has the perfect squares from 1 to 1600 highlighted on the main diagonal of the multiplication grid. This use of color with a purpose helps students to easily navigate the multiplication chart.

Since these charts are so large, they look quite fuzzy in the images below. Don’t worry – the printable PDF file should be crisp and clear and easy to read!

The other version of the 1-40 multiplication grid has the multiples of 5 and 10 highlighted throughout the multiplication table.

I prefer this second version with the multiples of 5 and 10 highlighted since I think it helps you keep your place on the chart since it is so large.

Other Sizes of Multiplication Tables

Looking for a free printable multiplication table with more or less number values? I have created a number of different sizes of printable multiplication charts over the years.
